A Rich History, A Bright Future!

Shiraz, or Syrah as it is also known, has an intriguing history in South Africa. While the exact details of its arrival are still up for debate, there’s no denying its impact on our winemaking landscape. From the early plantings at Groot Constantia in the late 1890s to its surge in popularity in the 1990s, Shiraz has become a cornerstone of South African viticulture. Today, with South Africa boasting the fourth-largest Shiraz plantings globally, this cultivar is deeply rooted in our nation’s wine heritage.

Meet the Survivor Syrah 2022: A True Standout

Our award-winning Survivor Syrah 2022 is more than just a wine—it’s an experience. This Syrah greets you with a rich, deep red colour and an aromatic symphony of cracked black peppercorns, coriander, plums, and bramble berries, all beautifully accented by hints of liquorice and oak spice. Each sip unveils a full-bodied, velvety texture that lingers on the palate, leaving you with a delightful finish of fynbos and freshly squeezed pomegranates. It is a wine that truly captivates the senses and leaves you savouring every sip.

Crafted with Love and Care

Our Survivor Syrah 2022 is the result of careful selection in the vineyard and expert craftsmanship. The grapes come from low-yielding, trellised vineyards in the Swartland, where the unique Hutton soils contribute to the wine’s exceptional quality. The grapes were hand-picked in the early morning to ensure they arrived in cellar cool and ready for the long soak. After completing malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in 400L French oak barrels for 20 months. The result? A Syrah that is as complex and refined as it is bold and memorable.

Celebrate with Us

We invite you to celebrate this incredible achievement with us by raising a glass of Survivor Syrah 2022. Whether you’re pairing it with a delicious meal or savouring it on its own, this Syrah is sure to make any moment special.

“I knew I would have to use my knowledge gained during my 2007 visit to the Rhone Valley in France, when I prepared for my first Survivor Syrah harvest in 2022. I explored various styles. while working with such spice-forward characters and knew I had to be very careful with the wood elements, so I opted for only 20% new oak and larger barrels. Overall, I believe this wine showcases great inspiration from the French Rhone Valley!” — Pierre, Cellar Master
